CARLA JEAN STEWART
November 2, 1949 - June 25, 2018

BIOGRAPHY

Carla Jean Stewart was surrounded by family when she passed away early June 25 in the Beaver Valley Hospital in Beaver, Utah at the age of 68. Carla is survived by the love of her life, Melvin R. Stewart, her 9 children and their spouses, her 34 grandchildren, and her 14great-grandchildren.

Carla was born on November 2, 1949 to Barbara and Karl L. White and had a wonderful childhood. She married Mel on February 24, 1967 and solemnized the marriage in the St. George LDS Temple on December 19, 1968. They first lived together in Salt Lake City where Carla attended a cosmetology school while Mel was studying mechanics. They then moved to Parowan while Mel worked in Cedar City as a mechanic for a couple of years, but they then moved to Milford to raise their family. Over the span of fifteen years, the couple had their children Ramie, Stacy, Hollie, Julie, Destry, Dallas, Mitch, Luke, and Reggie, raising them in Milford. Although
their children were raised to be self-reliant, they all recall her as being a loving and faithful mother.

Before being diagnosed with MS in 2000, Carla was an accomplished florist and had a shop in Milford. Nearly everyone through Beaver County would come to Carla for anything from weddings to funerals, and holidays to anniversaries. She was known for making corsages for widows throughout the town, directing Mel to deliver each one as she did not want the credit. Whenever she was not at the flower shop, Carla was also a creative individual who loved crocheting, cooking, and she was recognized to be “good with a gun.” She also loved throwing parties and spending time with her family; whether it was taking her family on a picnic or planning a birthday, Carla always wanted to host the best party.

She was a generous individual who loved The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, in which she served through her life as a primary president and in the stake primary presidency, a primary teacher, and a relief society counselor; she loved the children and she loved helping people, so the callings seemed perfect for her talents.

A viewing is scheduled Wednesday June 27, 2018 at 9 a.m., and a funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Beaver, Utah Stake Center. Bishop Steve Hutchings will officiate the ceremony, and all are welcome to attend and celebrate Carla’s life.

The family would like to thank the hospital and hospice staff at Beaver Valley Hospital for their efforts, their care, and their dedication in helping Carla and her family. The family would like to extend special thanks to Noal and Linda Robinson for the many years of care, friendship and dedication and also to Dave Reynolds.
