Charles L. "Chuck" Derrick, 74, of Matthews, NC, and Ruffin, NC, died on Friday, April 4, 2014, after a brief illness.

Born on July 30, 1939, son of the late William Edward and Edna Ruth Haltiwanger Derrick of Paw Creek, NC; husband of Judith Derrick.

Survived by, in addition to his wife, are step grandchildren, Megan and Dallas Rhyne; sister, Mary Henry (Jerry) of Shelby, NC and their children, Dave Henry, Joe Henry, Kathy Twomey, and Andy Henry: brothers, Edwin Derrick of Salley, SC, David Derrick (Barbara) of Charlotte and their children, Chad Derrick and Ryan Derrick, and Richard Derrick of Spartanburg, SC; son, Reed Derrick; and 10 grand nieces and nephews.

Survivors also include "brothers of his heart" Don Tickle of Southern Pines, NC, Bob Tickle (deceased), Richard Tickle of Boone, NC, Louis Dibrell of Danville, VA, Jerry Wyatt of Danville, VA, Donnie Strader of Ruffin, NC, and special friend, Susan Dibrell of Danville, VA.

Employed part- time by Wilkins Realty; served four years in the U.S. Navy; was a graduate of Appalachian State University, and held a pilots license for small aircraft.

He was a member of the North Carolina and Virginia Board of Realtors, Thrift United Methodist Church, YOSEF Club, Men's A Club, Former Athletes Club, NRA, The Low Life Rod and Gun Club in Ruffin, NC, and several other organizations. He loved to garden and ride four-wheelers over the farm. He lived life to the fullest, numbered his friends in the hundreds and was the best friend a person could have.

Services were held for the Charlotte area at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 7, 2014, at Thrift United Methodist Church, 8245 Moore's Chapel Road, Charlotte, NC, and for the Danville area at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Townes Memorial Chapel, 215 West Main Street, Danville, VA.

Visitation followed at the home of Mrs. Susan Dibrell, 130 Virginia Avenue, Danville, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to Hospice Development Dept., E. 1420 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204, or Thrift United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 425, Paw Creek, NC 28130.
