It is with deep sadness that the family of Dwayne Smith (Smitty) announces his passing on June 24, 2018. Smitty was born July 7, 1946 in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he lived until he joined the Navy, serving his country for 3 years.
After leaving the service he moved to Santa Paula where he met his first wife Sharon [daughter of Leonard James Bay] and had his 2 children, Jason and Kerri. He started his career in the "Oil Patch" with Union Oil Company in Santa Paula, continuing in the same Industry for 50 years before retiring from DCOR LLC in 2017.
After his first marriage ended, Smitty met his second wife, Sherry while both were working for UNOCAL. They married in 1998 and were married for 20 years at the time of his passing.
Smitty loved the outdoors; camping, water and snow skiing, and coaching his children in various sports. Later in life his passion became surfing, which he loved immensely and enjoyed meeting many others who shared this passion.
Smitty is survived by his wife, Sherry, former wife Sharon, children Jason Smith(Delia), Kerri Rutherford, his step-children Shannon Castro (Chris), Josh and Brock Powers; his grandchildren Sophie and Ava Rutherford, Braeden and Tyler Smith, Jorden, Camryn, and Payton Castro. Also surviving are his two sisters, Diane Prevatte and Vickie Deason.
We grieve the loss of this wonderful man and will share memories at a Celebration of Life July 7, 2018, at 9464 Darling Road, Ventura, CA from 2:00 ? 5:00.
