John Henry Berens was born August 17, 1929 to Henry and Lorena Datterl Berens on the family farm in Boyer Township, Crawford Co., Iowa. He passed away June 12, 2018 at Hoag Hospital of Newport Beach, CA, He attended local schools of the area where he was born. John proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954 at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA. He married his wife Darleen Ritchey on February 28, 1953. To this union was born one child, Marie Louise Berens Lipot. After farming the family farm in Iowa from 1954 to 1961. He and Darleen decided to relocate to her home town of Huntington Beach, CA where he eventually was hired by the Huntington Beach City Police Department. After working there a few years he was given the position of accident investigator which he held until his retirement of 25 years in October 1987.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Rena Berens and three brothers Joseph, Edward and Howard. He leaves to mourn his wife Darleen of 65 years of marriage and their daughter Marie Lipot and her husband Robert Lipot. He also leaves three grandchildren, John Lipot and wife Kelly, Trisha Gable and her husband Brent and Ann Lipot. Four Great Grandchildren, Sarah and Sabrina Lipot and Mika and Noah Gable. He also leaves two sisters. Pauline Schmitz of Dedham, IA and Helen Houston of Dow City, IA He was a charter member along with his wife and daughter of King of Glory Lutheran Church of Fountain Valley, CA and also served on the first church council. Burial was at Westminster Memorial Cemetery in Westminster, CA.
