KYW in Philadelphia is reporting that Rod Carson, one of the founders of Shadow Traffic, KYW Newsradio, died over the weekend at his home in Lehighton, Carbon County. He was 75. Carson was best known for the traffic reports on CBS Radio’s KYW. Carson’s Facebook page, which states he died of natural causes, is being flooded with comments.



Carson was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Coatesville where he got his first job on the former WCOJ. Before getting into traffic reporting, he was one of the Wibbage Good Guys on the former WIBG, and also did the Rock and Roll Roots show on WMMR. He also worked in Allentown and later for several other Philadelphia stations. In 2007, he marked 50 years in broadcasting.

Services are pending and the family is planning a memorial service to be held in Philadelphia.
