George Jeffreys was the sixth of eight sons born to Thomas and Kezia Jeffreys. In 1904 George and his brother Stephen were converted to Christianity during the height of the Welsh Revival. George was very ill and Edward, his nephew, told him about the emerging Pentecostal teachings. Although initially reluctant he eventually accepted the teachings and was baptized in Llynfi River. He was filled with the Spirit and healed. He immediately began to preach and his brother Stephen soon joined him. George went on to have success in Ireland and created the Elim Pentecostal Church movement. He traveled extensively across the United Kingdom and planted his first church in England in 1921. In 1922 he moved the Elim Headquarters to London. In 1924 George and Stephen traveled to the US for 5 months. While there he met Aimee Semple McPherson and incorporated many of her practices into the Elim Movement, even changing the name to Elim Foursquare Gospel Alliance.
The years of 1924 to 1935 were the most significant for George. He held meetings all over England. He invited Aimee Semple McPherson over to hold meetings and George began to see many miraculous healings occur. E.C.W Boulton wrote a book about those early years "George Jeffreys - The Ministry of the Miraculous". George struggled under the administrative requirements of the movement and simply wanted to be an evangelist. He eventually resigned his leadership of Elim in 1940. He eventually established the Bible-Pattern Church Fellowship a more locally based group of churches. He was not nearly as successful as he had been previously. George had a small resurgence of influence during the healing revival of 1940s and 50s that had arisen from the United States. He died on January 26, 1962. He is known as one of the greatest evangelists that England has produced, after George Whitfield and John Wesley.
