Gemima Bailey Moon (sometimes spelled 'Jemima' and often listed as J.G. Moon in documents), daughter of Thomas Cocke Bailey and Temperance Driscoll, Gemima was believed to be born about 1815, and married Capt. Henry C. Moon at age 17 in Halifax, Virginia on 7 January 1932. Together Henry and Gemima had nine children. Widowed at age 35, Jemima raised eight of her children, and nephew George M. Moon. On her own and with the help of her sons, Gemima assumed responsibility for the family's large farm and slaves. She listed her occupation as "Farmer" on the 1860 U.S. Census and by 1870 turned the farm over to her son, Andrew Henry Moon.

Gemima died at age 62. She was predeceased in death by her husband Henry, and children Eliza, Mary and Patrick, who succumbed to Typhoid fever in 1857; sons Ransom and Robert; and daughters Frances, and Mollie Easley (sp. Thomas Easley).

She was survived by her sons Walter Leake Moon and Andrew Henry Moon, and eight grandchildren.

It is believed that Gemima and her husband, Capt. Henry C. Moon, are buried in a cemetery plot on the Moon family's farm, along with several of their children. See below.
