Son of patriarch Colonel Henry Tucker and Ann Butterfield Tucker of The Grove plantation, Port Royal, Southampton, Bermuda. He was a medical doctor and a poet.

"Born in Bermuda in 1750, he lived during the early 1770s briefly in South Carolina and visited in Virginia, but then spent the rest of his life abroad, a student at Edinburgh, Leyden, and London, and was a physician in Yorkshire until his death in 1807.
