Mrs. Elliott died Monday, February 27, 2017. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late William Francis Coleman and Elizabeth Elliott Coleman.
Katie was a 1959 graduate of Dreher High School. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1962 after only three years with a bachelor’s degree in English. Katie taught middle school English for one year in Savannah, Ga., before returning to Columbia to teach. She worked as a proofreader for the Legislative Council for the S.C. State House, from which she retired after 28 years.
She loved the beach, dogs, and avidly worked crossword puzzles. She enjoyed spending time with her entire family and rarely missed a family sporting event.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph Black Elliott, Jr.; sons, Dr. Coleman Deane Fowble (Elizabeth) of Columbia, Glenn Ames Fowble (Hope) of Murrells Inlet, and Mark Elliott Fowble of Columbia; brother, William J. Coleman, Jr. (Julie) of Mathews, Va.; grandchildren, Cole, John, and Cecelia Fowble, and Ames and Jack Fowble; step-children, Stacey Lynn Tuch of Midlothian, Va., Kristin Ann McCullough of Midlothian, and Joseph B. Elliott III of Ardmore, Pa.; step-grandchildren, Thomas, Allie, Drew and Mattie Tuch, Michael McCullough, and Samantha, Morgan and Kayla Elliott.
