Elmira: Age 89, passed away Tuesday morning, November 8th, 2011 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Born in Elmira, January 14th, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Gretchen (Pierce) Strong. She is survived by her loving sons, Larry Earl Sherman of Melbourne Beach, FL; Dave (Laurel) Sherman; daughter, Gail Gretchen Sherman Silver; sons, Dan (Jan) Sherman both of Pine City; Scott (Margaret) Sherman of Brunswick, GA; grandchildren, Robin, Tammy, Michael, Steven, Laura, Sara, Megan, Tracy, Tyler, Merrick and several great grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Jankowski and Joni Barneski, both of Elmira, along with several nieces and nephewsl; many loving friends including, Lee and Fran Newkirk, Lucille and Manny Panosian, and Mary Hamlin. Gloria is predeceased by her husband, Loring W. Sherman, whom she dearly missed. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira/Southport, NY on Friday, November 11th, 2011 from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral and committal services will be held at the conclusion of the calling hours at 7 PM. The Reverend David Daniels will officiate. Private graveside services will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. Gloria's greatest passions were her devotion to God, family, and her wonderful friends.
