Rey Lars Hyer, 91 passed away May 30, 2018, at Sunshine Terrace. He was born April 21, 1927, in Lewiston, Utah, the son of Merle Gilbert and Verna Porter Hyer. He attended school in Lewiston, Utah, and graduated from North Cache High School in 1946, where he was active in sports.

He married the love of his life and eternal companion, Verla Smart, in the Logan LDS Temple on July 8, 1955. They began their life on the family farm. Together they raised four sons and one daughter.

He was active in the LDS Church, where he held many callings. He loved his family; his family was the most important thing to him. He would always say, "There's nothing more important than family." Whenever we would leave he would always say, "Tude-a-ly doo, I love you." He was a friend to all. He would do anything for anyone, always thinking of others before himself.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert (Helen), Weldon, Cleve, grandchildren, April and Joshua.

He is survived by his wife, Verla of Lewiston, UT; children Gill (Holly); Brad (Kriste Hull); Gordon (LeAnn); Janet (Scott); Alan (Lucinda), Bellbrook, 18 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a brother Howard (Marilyn): a sister Lucile Hyer.

A viewing will be held Friday, June 8, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 9, 2018, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lewiston 3rd Ward church building, 16 S. Main St., Lewiston, UT.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 9, at noon at the church with interment at Lewiston Cemetery.

Many thanks to all of those who offered loving care in Rey's behalf. Special thanks to Dr. Hirst, Shalise, Laura, Conner, Cody and Ben from Hospice, and even though he was only in Sunshine Terrace for a week, we thank those nurses for their loving care also.

And we especially thank our mother for the loving care she has given our dad these last few years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sunshine Hospice, a division of Sunshine Terrace Foundation 209 W. 300 North, Logan, UT 84321

I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course; I have kept the faith.
