Mrs. Beth McNutt of Scottsboro passed away on June 5, 2018 in her home she lovingly shared with her husband. Mrs. McNutt is survived by her husband Wayne McNutt; sons, Jonathan (Laura) and Drew (Jodie); grandchildren; Andrew, John Reed, and Ellie James (September 2018); brother, Bruce (Laura) Akin; sisters, Kay (Steve) Durham, Teresa Alexander, and Cynthia (Eddy) Herndon; sisters-in-law, Susan Strickland Akin and Gail Akin Shelton. Beth was loved by many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Bill and Ruth Akin, and her brother, Eddie Akin.
Beth was born to Bill and Ruth Akin on September 2, 1953. She graduated from Scottsboro High School in 1971. Upon graduation, Beth received her education degrees in physical education and in secondary English. She taught physical education and English within the Scottsboro City School system for 31 years. She was the first coach for Scottsboro High School girls’ basketball team and was the wrestling cheerleaders’ sponsor for many years. Beth enjoyed the sisterhood of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International (Rho Chapter). Beth was an active member of First Baptist Church of Scottsboro. She loved her church family and lovingly served in many capacities for several years. She cherished her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, educator, and friend.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 7 at First Baptist Church of Scottsboro. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. with services beginning at 2:00 P.M. Pallbearers will be her nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be her Scottsboro High School Girls’ Basketball teams and wrestling cheerleaders.
