Roger grew up in Harperville, Mississippi and lived in Forest where he met his future wife Dorothy Noblin, and they were married in 1938. They moved to Jackson where Roger was employed by Illinois Central Railroad until being drafted into the Army during World War II. On return he once again was employed as a switchman on the Illinois Central Railroad retiring after 39 years of service.

Roger was a member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Jackson. He enjoyed being in the North Jackson Exchange Club as well as the retired railroad coffee club. Survivors include his daughter Jo Ferrell Tyner Carr and husband Dale of Brandon; three grandchildren Deborah Bruner (Bobby) Helena, Alabama; Mary Jane Carr, Denver, Colorado; and Beth Martindale (Allen) of Lantana, Texas. Three great grandchildren, Hannah Martindale of Lantana, Texas; Shannon Bruner May (Bryon) of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Elizabeth Bruner Davis (Steven) Pell City, Alabama. Two great great grandchildren Spencer May and Elaine Davis.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Tom Tyner and Jennie Shannon Tyner, loving wife Dorothy Noblin Tyner and daughter Jan. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Joe Robert Tyner, and sisters Helen Tyner Monroe, Exa Tyner Griffith, and his loving twin sister Rachel. There were many nieces and nephews that he adored.

Roger loved fishing and hunting and always telling about his childhood growing up in Harperville and riding his horse Nell. He loved his dogs Trouble and Joe Joe. He never met a stranger and was always there to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed railroading and playing tricks on his co-workers. His "railroad days" were very special to him.

The family would like to thank the staff of Emeritus Heritage House of Castlewood for their loving help and support. Memorials in Roger's memory may be made to St. Lukes United Methodist Church, 621 Duling Avenue, Jackson, MS 39216.
