Mrs. Velma Guffey Warren of Jacksonport, Arkansas departed this life at her home on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at the age of 82. She was born March 12, 1936, in Tuckerman, Arkansas, the daughter of William Robert and Chister Ione Turner Guffey.

Mrs. Warren grew up in Tuckerman and was a 1954 graduate of Tuckerman High School where she played basketball for the Tuckerman Bulldogs as #14. Miss Velma Guffey married Mr. Max Warren on February 15, 1954. They made their home in Jacksonport, and throughout their fifty-seven years of marriage, they raised four children, enjoyed their grandchildren and great grandchildren, and loved and faithfully served the Lord and His church.

Max and Velma were a team. They shared their love for the Lord by serving the Jacksonport Baptist Church together since 1959. Mrs. Warren taught Sunday school for countless years, was a faithful member of the Ladies Bible Class and she served on the Benevolence Committee through her entire church membership. Mrs. Warren’s greatest love was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The other great loves of her life, evident to all who knew her, were her family and church family. Mrs. Warren’s greatest sources of joy were the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Always the most loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she enthusiastically attended every sports activity and recital possible. Mrs. Velma Warren loved her family and was loved by her family.

During the 70’s she enjoyed playing softball with her team The Jacksonport Women. Mrs. Warren’s greatest joy was hosting family gatherings. The more family present the better she enjoyed the time spent together. She delighted in watching all of the children together and especially enjoyed listening to all of her husband, sons, sons in law, and grandsons telling their “big hunting lies” to one another.

After raising her children, Mrs. Warren began working as a caregiver. She became not only a caregiver, but also a friend to those she cared for.

This exceptional lady was loved and will be missed by so many. It was a blessing and a privilege to know and love Mrs. Velma Warren.

Mrs. Warren was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Max Rudolph Warren, on May 24, 2011, one daughter, Karen Warren Bradley on April 29, 2016, one sister, Mary Ann Durham and her parents.

She is survived by two sons, Mike Warren and wife, Cynthia, of Newport, Billy Max Warren and wife, Kim, of Newport; one daughter, Vickie Dingman and husband, Jim, of Jacksonport; one son-in-law Terry Bradley of Jacksonport; two sisters, Genevieve Lassiter of Newport and Glenna Turner of Elgin; nine grandchildren, Kenny Dingman and wife, Gayla, Tonya Tipton and husband, Ronnie, Jennifer Ritchie and husband, Dr. Clint Ritchie, Anna Bowen, Michael Warren, Jr., Megan Williams, Dustin Warren and wife, Katy, Matthew Bradley and Emily Baker and husband, Michael; seventeen great-grandchildren, Lindsey Dingman, Landen Phillips, Madison Phillips, Anderson Phillips, Aniston Phillips, Addison Ritchie, Whitley Ritchie, Trey Bowen, Jayla Williams, Jazzmyn Williams, Isaiah Warren Ezra Warren, Asher Warren, Aaron Warren, Jason Bradley, Isabella Baker and Brad Baker.
