Mary Louise “Wimp“ Baumgartner, 87, of Kendallville died Saturday, June 2, 2018, at 5:39 a.m. at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville.

She was born September 13, 1930, in Fort Wayne to Leslie and Bernice (Danner) Baumgartner.

She graduated from Central High School in Fort Wayne and received her Master’s Degree from the University of Indianapolis.

Wimp played professional baseball with the All American Girls Professional Baseball League and played for the Peoria Redwings and South Bend Blue Sox.

Miss Baumgartner was a teacher at Jimtown High School in Elkhart and Leo High School in Leo. She retired in 1985, after 28 years.

She attended the Rome City United Methodist Church.

Wimp moved to Lutheran Life Villages in December, 2017, after living with her niece in Rome City. Prior to that she resided at Jimmerson Lake near Fremont.

Surviving are four nieces, Twink (John) Pierce of Rome City, Bobbie Simon of Huntertown, Jolene Shepherd of Georgia, and Jacki Rooke of California; three nephews, Butch Simon of Fort Wayne, Morris (Kathy) Markley of Michigan, and Kenneth (Joy) Markley of Maine; and 11 great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Betty Simon, Marjorie Markley, Mildred Baumgartner, and Delores Baumgarter.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Rev. Christopher White officiating.

Calling is Monday, June 4, 2018, from 1 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
