Grateful for her life of service, the Sisters of Providence announce that Sister Hélène Simard passed away at the age of 101 at Providence Centre, Edmonton, on May 27. Sister Hélène was born in St. Roch de Québec in 1917 and entered the Sisters of Providence in 1940, going on to serve the people of western Canada as an accountant in health care and educational institutions and in service to the poor, appreciated for her gentle kindness. Sister Hélène’s loss is mourned by the Sisters of Providence; her sister, Mrs. Estelle Comtois; sister-in-law, Mrs. Marie Simard and her nephews, André Simard and Marc Hillier and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, Réal Simard and Bernadette Giguère. The Sisters of Providence appreciate the loving care given to Sister Hélène by the nursing staff at Providence Centre and the messages of condolence received from friends and former coworkers. In lieu of flowers, donations to the works of the Sisters of Providence are welcome.
