Clarence Monroe Parker, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully May 28, 2018. He was born in Yeager, OK to Monroe and Edna Parker, of Ada, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nina Barrett. Survivors include his wife of almost 68 years, Peggy; his daughter, Judi Carson & husband Bob; his son, Mark & wife Donna; grandchildren, Matt Carson, Eric Carson, Linsey Cunningham, Kylie Vincent, Coleman Parker, Hilari Hamblin, and Stephen Carson; as well as his brother, Robert Parker; and sister, Frances McKinnis. In 1949, Clarence received his education for ministry at Bethany Nazarene College. He married Peggy Henry on June 9, 1950, and in 1953, he obtained his license for ministry. Under his leadership as pastor, a Nazarene church was formed in Derby, KS in 1956. His next pastoral appointment was in Holdenville, OK from 1960 to 1966. After a career transition, he received his PhD in philosophy from The University of Oklahoma and moved to Edmond in 1968. There, at Central State University, he became a professor teaching philosophy, logic, and death and dying and was elected Faculty Senate President. He also taught death and dying classes at McAlester State Prison. In 1993, he retired from Central State University (UCO) after 25 years. He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in OKC. In the past years, he volunteered delivering meals. Even in his later life, Dr. Parker always got a kick out of having a discussion on logic with any willing participant he could find. He was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather and we will miss him so much. The family wishes to thank Companion Hospice Care for the love and compassion shown Clarence in the last weeks of life. Memorial Service at Bradford Village Community Center, Edmond, Sunday, July 1, 3 p.m.
