Steve was born on April 6, 1951, in Cumberland.
He was a son of the late Charles Junior and Juanita Rose (Everett) Dawson.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Sharon Smith.
Steve graduated from Hampshire High School Class of 1969 and from Shepherd College in 1974. He was employed by the WV Department of Health and Human Services and retired as a counselor from WV Rehabilitation Services. Steve was a well known fiddle player and member of the Mill Brook Boys. He owned the Potomac Music Store where people gathered for the "Friday night jam sessions." After retiring Steve became an avid golfer. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hunting, and fishing.
Steve was a Trustee and Council Member of the Romney Church of God and formerly Clerk of the Church.
Steve is survived by his wife of 27 years, Esther L. Dawson, one son, Andrew Dawson, Romney, W.Va.; three daughters, Apryl Dawson, Augusta, W.Va., Shannon Dawson, Romney, Amanda Reno, Martinsburg, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Trenadi Graham, Avery Reno, Brandon Flohr, Ayrianna Flohr, and Amyiah Flohr; one brother, Charles Dawson, Baltimore and one sister, Diana Dawson, Romney, W.Va.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be Monday, April 28 at 11 a.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond Sterling officiating.
Interment will be at Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney.
