Alice Hulm of Timber Lake was a teacher from the time she graduated from college until she died. A favorite teacher to many, she taught in Thunder Butte, Isabel, Sturgis and Timber Lake, mentoring many kids along the way. Her faith and church were important to her and she taught religion classes for 23 years and made more than 270 Baptismal banners.

Alice passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital. She was 71 years old.

Alice Rosanne Beer was born June 21, 1935 to Fred and Mary (Boeding) Beer on the family farm near Glad Valley. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural grade school. She graduated from Isabel High School in 1954.

Following high school, Alice attended Northern State Teachers College and then Presentation College, both in Aberdeen, where she received her teaching certificate.

On June 15, 1957, Alice married Jim Hulm and they made their home in Sturgis for one year before moving to a farm near Timber Lake where they farmed for more than 35 years.

Alice was active in her community volunteering at the Dewey County Museum and serving on the Bob Urban Scholarship Selection committee, the Timber Lake Cemetery Board, as treasurer for the Dewey County Republicans and on the church Altar Society.

Alice is survived by her husband, Jim of Timber Lake, three daughters, Cindy (Tony) Koenders, Pipestone, Minn. Deb Hagedorn, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jennifer (Del) Kooiman, Pipestone; two sons, Jim (Ellen) Hulm, Timber Lake, Fred (Michele) Hulm, Faith; 17 grandchildren; four great grand children; four brothers, Addie (Marge) Beer, Isabel, John (Maurine) Beer, Timber Lake, Fred (Karen) Beer, Lemmon, and Bernie (Karen) Beer, Faith; a brother-in-law, Bill Alley, Isabel.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Louise Beer and Mary Alley, and a brother, "Buddy" Beer.

Mass of Christian Burial was Sat., April 14, at the Timber Lake School gym. Fathers Kevin Achbach, Ron Garry and Andrzej Wyrostek officiated. Burial was in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

A Vigil service was held Friday evening at the gym with visitation prior to it.

Casketbearers were David Alley, Ryan and Kevin Beer, Jack Hazel, Pat Aberle, Corey Majorowicz, Steve Hulm, Eric and Chris Dollarhide. Honorary casketbearers were Alice's grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The organist was Fauneil Keller. Special music was provided by Mandy Hulm and the Holy Cross Choir. The cantor was Sheila Scherer.

Eucharistic ministers were Karen Salzer, Bill Alley, Ellen Hulm, Barb Kuhn, Ray Tehle and Richard Kraft. The ushers were Bruce Maher, Jim Bartlett, Eddie Beer, Jerry Keller, Tony Koenders and Tom Alley.

The offertory was by Andy and Keva Aberle and all of Alice's grandchildren. The mass servers were Clay Lindskov, Tait Salzer and Tanner Kraft. The lectors were LuAnn Lindskov and Deb Hagedorn.
