Mr. Gilstad was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a son of the late Leif and Emma Pearson Gilstad.
He graduated from the University of Minnesota and worked as a computer systems analyst for Honeywell/Bull for over 40 years. He was an active volunteer for SMARC in the Middlesex County of Massachusetts, as well as for ARC in Horry County. He was a beloved member and participant in many church programs and activities.
Surviving are four sons, Kurt Mosser and his wife, Brenda, and Douglas Gilstad all of Myrtle Beach, Scott Gilstad of Melbourne, Fla., and Peter Gilstad of West Palm Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Cheryl Moore and her husband, James, of Holliston, Mass., Diane Joyce of Myrtle Beach, and Pamela Parker-Weiderman and her husband, Bud, of Silver Springs, Md.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Barbara Anderson of Duluth, Minn.
Mr. Gilstad was predeceased by his wife, Marion Woodward Gilstad.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2009 in Mr. Gilstad's hometown of Holliston, Mass.
