Dean Scott, 72, of Valparaiso, IN passed away at 1:40 AM Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at
VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. He was born on September 14, 1945 on the family
farm in Pulaski, IN. In his youth, he was active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.
Dean also spent several years working at Russell's Old Trading Post in Winamac, IN.
He graduated from Winamac High School in 1964. He served in the US Navy aboard the
USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam Conflict. Dean was a life member of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars and a supporter of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. On April 17,
1999, Dean married Carol L. Rowland Shipley in Hobart, IN. He retired from Inland
Steel Co. of East Chicago, IN in 2007. Dean was a proud member of United Steel
Workers Union Local #1010 in East Chicago.
Dean enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and traveling with his wife. He
was an avid reader and antique enthusiast. Dean also enjoyed the outdoors and was a
supporter of nature preservation and land reclamation.
Dean was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. Family was
everything to him. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
