Retired Judge Thomas M. Quinn Jr., 89, of Dartmouth, passed away on Wednesday, April 25.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Barbara (Donaghy) Quinn and Attorney Thomas M. Quinn Sr., and the brother of the late Judge James M. Quinn. He was a long-time parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in South Dartmouth.

Thomas was a 1946 graduate of Holy Family High School. He then went on to graduate from the College of the Holy Cross and Boston College Law School. After a period of time spent in the private practice of law in New Bedford with his father and brother, he was appointed as an assistant clerk in the Bristol County Superior Court. Always active in his community, he was also a long-time member of the Dartmouth School Committee. In 1976, Governor Dukakis appointed Thomas to a judgeship in the Bristol County Juvenile Court where he served honorably for many years before his retirement.

He was a devoted sports fan and a repository of endless amounts of sports trivia. Above all, he was a man of profound faith, and a loving father and husband.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean (Valladoa) Quinn, and his sister Rosemary K. Quinn of Dartmouth. He is also survived by seven children: District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III and his wife Sharon of Fall River; Andrew Quinn and his wife Linda of Dartmouth; Attorney John Quinn and his wife Jane of Dartmouth; Attorney Matthew Quinn and his wife Beth of Somerset; Kathleen Hood and her husband Timothy of Needham; Peter Quinn and his wife Emily of Dartmouth, and James Quinn and his wife Julie of Duxbury. In addition, he is survived by 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He lived a full and rewarding life.

His funeral will be held on Monday, at 8:45 a.m., from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Dartmouth at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.
