One of Hayfield's Oldest Citizens Laid to Rest Last Friday
Another old settler of this vicinity has passed to the final resting place. Mrs. Marit Hagen was born in Sambosgarden, Guldbransdalen, Norway, March 5,1834. In 1869 she came with her husband, Peter J. Hagen, and children to America and settled at Salem, Olmsted Co., Minn. They came to Hayfield in 1873. Since the death of her husband in 1916, Mrs. Hagen has resided at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carrie Boe. During the past three years the weakness of old age confined her to her bed, a patient sufferer attended by loving children who did all in their power to comfort and cheer. She died Monday, June 28th, at the age of 86 years,3 months and 23 days, leaving five daughters and two sons, Mrs. Carrie Boe, Mrs. Mary Holen, Mrs. Agatha Peterson, Mrs. Ole Baken, George P. Hagen and Peter Hagen. She also leaves six great grandchildren and forty-four grandchildren.
Six grandsons were pall-bearers at the funeral. Rev. Gilbert Oppen preached the sermon and Misses Inger Sundae and Dora Wall each sang a solo. The service was held at 2 o'clock Friday, July 2nd, at north Trinity Lutheran church and was attended by a large concourse of friends who came to pay loving respect to the good woman.
