Gail A. Carpenter, 79, of Chillicothe, died 5:57 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Adena Regional Medical Center unexpectedly.

He was born October 12, 1938 in Chillicothe to the late Harry and Vernie Robinson Carpenter. On April 27, 1963, he married the former Betty Jane Steinbrook who preceded him in death July 30, 1991. On December 22, 1997, he married the former Janice Kidnocker Sigler who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Shekou Shenzhen, China; three stepdaughters; nine grandchildren; a sister, of Chillicothe; two sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law, of Chillicothe; a special friend and "little brother", Travis of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Harold and Paul Carpenter; sister, Barb Kuhner and a brother-in-law, Harvey Kuhner.

Gail was a United States Air Force Veteran. He retired from DuPont on January 31, 1997 following 33 years of service. Gail was a member of Chillicothe Baptist Church and an active volunteer with Big Brothers and Big Sisters and, for the past 10 years, was an active volunteer for Nascar's Victory Junction Camp for handicapped children. He also enjoyed mentoring kids at local area schools. Gail was an avid Ohio State Buckeye Fan.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday May 22, 2018 at the Chillicothe Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Cline officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 6-8 p.m. on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Big Brothers/Big Sisters 173 W. Second Street Chillicothe, Ohio 45601 or to Elizabeth's Hope 311 W. Water Street Chillicothe, Ohio 45601.
