Ms. Brenda Jean Marshall Golden, age 74, of Mount Airy, entered life eternal on Friday, October 20, 2017. She passed away quietly at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, surrounded by her family. Ms. Golden was born on December 16, 1942, in Surry County, to Enoch Marshall and Esther Alderman Marshall. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brother, Douglas E. Marshall. Mrs. Golden was a devoted and beloved mother, aunt and friend. She is survived by her son, Heber B. Golden, III and his wife, Colleen Golden of Carson City, NV, her nephews, Greg and Lori Marshall, Steve and Laura Marshall, Eric and Julie Marshall all of Mount Airy and Chad Marshall of Wilmington, NC; along with several great nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caregiver, Judy Stockton. Mr. Golden was a faithful Christian and long-time member of Salem United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working with and serving the public and developed many life-long friendships with customers and co-workers at Baldwin's Department Store, Lowes Foods, Mayberry Market and the Gilmer Smith Foundation. She also loved creating beautiful flower arrangements and retired after many years of working in the floral department at Lowes Foods in Mount Airy. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 23, 2017, at Salem United Methodist Church with Reverends Bud Cameron and Tyler Hege officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Jim Boyd, 3373 W. Pine St., Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Mountain Valley Hospice at 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
