The open session of the Union Literary Society last Thursday eve at the "Grand" was fairly well attended notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather. — The paper "Literary Squibs," by Miss Minnie King, was full of good points and interested the audience.

CALLED HERE ON SAD ERRAND
Will King of Fargo, N. D., who was called to Hannibal last week by the death of his sister, Miss Minnie, was in Shelbina Saturday morning making arrangements for the burial here. He returned to Hannibal that afternoon and was one of the funeral party that came up Sunday afternoon.
Mr. King is practicing law in Fargo and is doing well. He left here some 19 years ago and has made but one or two visits back in that time. His friends here, though glad to see him, were sorry that he should be called back on so sad a mission. Mr. king will take his mother, Mrs. Kittie King, home with him, to spend the summer.
