Eunice (Myers) Evans passed away on Friday, September 19, 2014, at MRC Creekside in Huntsville, Texas. She was 91 years of age.
Eunice was born in Krum (Denton County) Texas on June 22, 1923. She was the daughter of James Alexander Myers, Sr. and Beatrice (Adcock) Myers and the younger sister of James Alexander Myers, Jr. and John Walter Myers all of whom predeceased her. Her husband, Earl G. Evans passed away in July 2002.
She is survived by her son, COL Mickey S. Evans, USA, Retired, and daughter-in-law, Linda E. (Ryan) Evans and two grandchildren, Leanne (Evans) Keeble and her husband Eric, and Julie (Evans) Gasier and her husband LT(P) Heath G. Gasier, USN. Her three great grandchildren include John Thomas Burney (15), Jenna Marie Burney (13) and Audie Eric Keeble (13).
Other family survivors include sister-in-law Frances (Evans) Hill from Clarksville, Texas; nephew Clarence R. Myers and wife Anne from Lewisville, Texas; niece Frances (Myers) Ridinger from Lewisville, Texas; niece Peggy (Peek) Spear from Wimberley, Texas; niece Bobbie (Ancell) Bain and husband Jay from Pasadena, Texas; and nephew Michael Hill and wife Susan from Clarksville, Texas.
Graduating from Denton High School in 1941, Eunice met and married Earl G. Evans in Denton, Texas on March 26, 1942. On June 4, 1944 she gave birth to her only child, Mickey. She attended the Texas State College for Women while Earl was employed with Duke & Ayres in Denton. The family relocated to Huntsville, Texas in April 1950 where Earl managed the Duke & Ayres store on the north side of the square for many years.
Eunice was employed by Sam Houston State University where she served as the secretary to the Dean of Admissions for many years before becoming the Registrar and retiring in 1989 after 37 years of service.
While employed with the university between September 1952 and August 1989, she completed her Bachelor of Business Administration in 1962 and Master of Business Administration in 1968. She was a member of Alpha Chi National Honorary Society, PI OMEGA PI National Honorary Business Education Fraternity, Delta Zeta Sorority, an Honorary member of the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, and a long time member of First United Methodist Church, Huntsville Texas.
Her hobbies included cats, gardening, cooking, canning, sewing, genealogy, reading, and playing card games of various types with close friends and couples.
