Rochester Democrat and Chronicle
Rochester, Monroe County, New York.
Monday, February 15, 1965

Craig Fox, 69, Dies; Ex-D&C Cartoonist.

Craig J. Fox, 69, a cartoonist for this newspaper from 1913 to 1926, died of a heart attack Saturday (Feb. 13, 1965) in his apartment, 86 Union st. S.

The building superintendent found his body in a living room chair when he went in to deliver a package.

Mr. Fox, a self-taught artist, stated working for the Democrat and Chronicle when he was 18. He left the newspaper in 1926 to draw for a syndicate, but continued to live here. His drawings appeared in publications throughout the country.

He specialized in political cartoons and several of his works won citations.

In a corner of each of his sketches he signed his name superimposed on a miniature drawing of a fox's head.

After he stopped working for the syndicate several years ago, he spent some time traveling and doing water colors. His latest, a market place on Cape Cod, Mass., was finished earlier this year.

Mr. Fox turned to drawing when he was in grammar school. He did pencil copies of the Cartoons he saw in newspapers, particularly a cartoon called "Buster Brown."

Mr. Fox was a bachelor. He is survived by two cousins, Mrs. James Kingston of Rochester and Emmett G. Craig of Leeds, Ala.
