Wilma was born on Jan. 2, 1924, in Sheboygan County, to William and Ella (Meinen) VerVelde. On June 12, 1941, she married Lewis Veldboom in Oostburg. Lewis died on Sept. 26, 2011. Wilma worked for the Oostburg Canning Company and together with Lewis they owned and operated Lewie's Shoe Service in Oostburg for over 35 years.
Wilma was a lifelong member of First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg, where she was involved in the ladies societies. She also was a member of the Oostburg Christian School Circle.
Wilma loved visiting with her grandchildren. She also loved wintering in Florida with Lewis where she enjoyed playing the stump fiddle at their club. Wilma liked making jewelry, dining out, and talking with friends.
Wilma is survived by one daughter, Helen (David) Gabrielse, Oostburg; two sons, William Veldboom, Oostburg; and Don (Betsy) Veldboom, Waynesboro, Ga.; one daughter-in-law, Sue Veldboom, Oostburg; 13 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Eleanor (David) Wingert, Sheboygan Falls; one brother, Gerald (Betty) Veldboom, Sheboygan Falls; one sister-in-law, Alice June VerVelde, Oostburg; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis; two sons, an infant, and Eugene Veldboom; two brothers, an infant brother, and Roland VerVelde.
Funeral services to celebrate Wilma's life will be at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 13, 2012, at First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg with Rev. Ben Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland.
Relatives and friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church.
A memorial fund has been established in Wilma's name for the First Christian Reformed Church and the First Reformed Church Broadcast Service.
