Waverly, IL — Ethel May Bowen, age 89, of Waverly, Il. died Monday afteroon (September 11, 2017) at Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville, Il.
She was born February 29, 1928 in Cartwright Township, Sangamon County, Il. daughter of the late Arthur and Ethel May Wyrick Boggs.
She married William Carroll Kern in 1947. She later married David Bowen on July 4, 1952 and he preceded her in death 1992.
Surviving are her children, Bruce Kern (Sandy) of Virden, Il. and Ethel Creasey of Buda, Texas; three grandchildren, Chad Creasey (Kim) of Austin, Texas, Trisha Beal (Chris) of Auburn, Il. and Carrie Krug (Mike) of Buda, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Brynn, Skylar, Cade, Cash, and Zane; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a granddaughter, Mary Ann Kern; one sister, Alberta Sagle; four brothers, Arthur, Lester, Ennis, Harland Boggs.
She was a 1946 graduate of Divernon High School. She then attended Illinois Business College in Springfield, Il. She was an accountant for many years, running her own accounting service, Bowen Accounting. She was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing bingo and doing puzzles.
Funeral services will be held 12 P.M. Friday (September 15, 2017) at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly, Il. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery in Auburn, Il.
Visitation will be held from 10 A.M. until the time of service Friday. Memorials may be made to American Lung Assn. c/o Neece-Airsman-Hires, 349 Tanner, Waverly, Il. 62692.
