Jean "Jeannie" Jones
1933 - 2018
Mom received her heavenly body April 24, 2018. She went peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. Born just outside of Ardmore, Oklahoma, on Dec. 20, 1933, as Mable Jean Stewart, her family moved to California during the Dust Bowl migration. They ended up in the Ceres, Modesto area where she met and married at 16 the love of her life, Johnny Jones. They were inseparable from 1950-1982, when Dad died too young. We are sure they are together again. It always seems to amaze us how many friends Mom and Dad had. Mom truly loved the Lord. She attended Faith Temple Church and was also the spiritual bandleader at East Niles Senior Center. Her beauty, dignity, and grace left lasting impressions on everyone who was lucky enough to meet her. Mom loved to listen to gospel music, harmonizing and singing while cooking biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes, her famous banana pudding, and that awesome green pistachio salad! Mom was an avid bowler and represented WIBC Kern County numerous years, traveling all over the country and later becoming a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame. Mom will be missed by her brother, Philip Stewart, 95 years young of Modesto, CA; sister-in-law, Betty Jones, 91 years young of Bowling Green, Ohio; her sons, Chip Jones and his wife Gina, Ventura, CA, and David Jones and his wife Gina, Cayucos, CA; special nephew Randy Thompson of Arvin; grandchildren, Jonny, Caleh, Leo, Samantha, and Danny; great-grandchildren, Abby, Emma, Benjamin, and Hannah; and many nieces and nephews. Known as Jeannie Jones, Jean, or JJ, everybody loved Mom; and we will never forget her graciousness, giving character, and always lending a helping hand. She will be deeply missed by all. Heaven just got a whole lot better!
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 4th, 8:30-10 a.m., with a chapel service at 10 a.m., at Greenlawn Funeral Home Northeast, 3700 River Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Faith Temple Church, 1227 Park Dr., Bakersfield, CA 93306
