Coryne Aston Boggs was born August 23, 1917 in El Paso to Vivian Earl and Arcola (Schmidt) Boggs. Her mother was a school teacher and her father worked for Southern Pacific Railroad.
She attended the University of Texas in Austin, where she met William Munro Choate from Beaumont. They were married in 1937 and lived in Beaumont for many years before moving to Lake Jackson, where Mr. Choate worked as an engineer for Dow Chemical. They were very active square dancers, with Bill often serving as the caller.
Mrs. Choate, known to friends and family as “Sweet Coryne”, was a member of many historical organizations, including DAR, Colonial Dames, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and Daughters of the War of 1812, where she served as Texas state president. During WWII she was a volunteer at Hotel Dieu Hos in Beaumont. An animal lover, she was known to dote on her pet dachshunds.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Robert Boggs and V.E. Boggs.
She is survived by her daughter, Sallie Choate Kennedy, and son-in-law Richard Kennedy, of Lorton, Virginia; by two granddaughters, Bradley Choate Kennedy of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Ashley Choate Kennedy of Wilmington, DE; and by many nieces and nephews.
Her interment will be on May 19 at 12:00 in Marquez, TX, next to her husband. Friends and relatives are invited to attend this service and then join family members for a reception at Hilltop Lakes, 12:30 to 3:00.
