John Hume Miller, MD was Thomas Jefferson University's second known African American alumnus (JMC '03). Dr. Miller, born during Reconstruction, was not pictured in his year book because of race. He was also a graduate of Lincoln University, in Penn. like his father. His great granddaughter, L. Kyrin Feagans-Dunstan, also earned her MD from Jefferson Medical College. She dedicated her yearbook entry to her great grandfather.

Dr. Miller's father, Thomas Ezekiel Miller, an educator by training, was elected a U.S. Representative from South Carolina, serving twice, however once from 1889-1891, and later served again as U.S. House of Representative. He had a son and daughter.
