OSCEOLA - Rev. Dale R. Brown, 87, of Osceola, IN, moved into heaven Monday, July 15, 2013. Cancer had ravaged his body but did not touch his spirit. His advice to his children, Ron and Norma Brown of Bloomington, IL, Sherry and Walter Hogan of Gainesville, VA, and Roger and Teresa Brown of Osceola, IN, was "... Don't give up!" He lived his advice, serving as pastor of 29 churches in 7 states. His ministry started at age 16. Signs and wonders followed his pastorates. His wife, Betty Lou (Meyers) Brown, was healed of polio and worked diligently with him until her death in September 2012. Their marriage of 66 years and care for each other was witness to the marriage promise they made to each other. Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, (Hebrews 12:2), he leaves his legacy with his 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Melva Brown, and one brother, James Brown. His legacy is established with his children serving the Lord. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served in the Philippines during WW II. He was a graduate of Mt Vernon, IL, High School; student at Bethel Seminary, Mishawaka, IN; Lee College extension in Florida; and East Coast Bible College in North Carolina. He had an early interest in technology and embraced the Internet. Even into his final years you would find him with his iPad and iPhone. He enjoyed FaceTime conversations with family and friends. He enjoyed golf, which he mastered after retirement. Annual golfing trips to Myrtle Beach with family and friends spanned over 30 years. He got his first "hole-in-one" at age 84. But more important than golf or technology was his passion for his Lord. Thousands of men, women, boys and girls made a personal commitment to serve the Lord during his pastoral ministry. So his advice to family and friends is '... Don't give up'. Press on toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:14) A celebration of his life will be at Bubb Funeral Chapel with visitation on Friday, July 19, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. Memorials may be made to the Wolf Prairie Cemetery Association, and accepted at the funeral home.
