Barnet Dempsey was listed as Barnet Damsy on the 1790 Census in Spartansburg County, South Carolina with his wife, four sons, three daughters and no slaves.
The sons would be James born 1774, William born 1778 , John born 1779 and Jesse born 1780.
The three daughters would be: unknow born 1776, Matilda born 1784 and Elexar born 1786. When the census of 1800 was taken, three of Barnet Dempsey's sons James, Jess and William had married and were living next door to their fahter.
When the census of 1810 was taken, Barnet had three sons, but no daughters living at home. This was the last census on which he appeared, because he died about 1813 or 1814.
Based on the 1790 through 1810 census records, we know that Barnet Dempsey lived in Spartanburg, South Carolina for t\at least twenty years. We know that he was born before 1755, and died 1814, so he would have been at least fifty-nine years old when he died.
