LAWTON Services for Claude Lee Henderson Jr., 84, will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Western Hills Christian Church with Tommy Smith, Shawnee, officiating. Entombment will be at the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

Born on Aug. 21, 1922, to Claude Henderson Sr. and Ruby Sanders Henderson in Beggs, Okla., he died April 11, 2007, in Lawton.

Raised in Beggs and Depew, he graduated from Beggs High School in 1939 and joined the 45th Division of the Oklahoma National Guard that same year. After training in various stations in the U.S., he was sent to Italy in 1943. He fought in Sicily, Salerno and Anzio. In April of 1944, he was injured and received an honorable discharge in November of 1945 with the rank of sergeant. After being discharged he owned the Beggs Independent newspaper. In 1947 he moved his family to Ardmore, Okla. and worked for The Daily Ardmoreite and then later for Spreckelmeyer Printing. He moved to Lawton in 1960 and became a linotype operator in the composing room and later in sales in the display advertising department at the Lawton Constitution from 1960 to Dec. 31, 1970. He owned and operated Clover Printing Company from 1971 to Jan. 30, 1989, and continued working there until the health of his wife forced him into retirement.

He met Catherine Owens in Breckenridge, Texas, on Dec. 6, 1941, and they had their first date on Dec. 7, 1941, They married on Dec. 18, 1942. Catherine died in October of 1999. He and Lilly Githens were married in October of 2003 .

Claude was a member of Sertoma Service Club, Elks Lodge and Lawton Ambucs, serving as president from 1992 to 1993. He was a member of Western Hills Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters and their husbands, Sherry and Doug Healy, Chatsworth, Calif., and Pat and Lee Engfer, Larkspur, Colo; a son and his wife, Jeff and Denise Henderson, Lawton; two granddaughters, Christy Meijer and Susan Mayorga, and grandsons, Doug Rulison and David Engfer, all of California, and Philip and Austin Henderson, Lawton; and three great-grandchildren.
