Son of Jonah Still and Hannah Hudson, husband of Ursula Newton, whom he married about 1862 in Brookhaven, NY, and father of Sarah, George M., Carolina N. (married William Smith) and Mina "Minnie" E. Still (married Robert S. Cameron).

In 1900, Josiah H. Still, aged 70, widowed, no occupation, was living at 791 Quincy Street, Brooklyn, NY, with his sister-in-law, Bel Newton, aged 61, his niece, Lillian M. Still, aged 31, a typesetter, and grandson, George E. Still, and servant, Catherine Matthews, aged 28.

Obituary - Josiah H. Still - At his summer residence at Amityville, L.I., Josiah Henry Still, who was well known throughout Long Island and New York in the oyster trade, died yesterday, of general debility. Funeral services will be held at his late residence, 791 Quincy Street, tomorrow evening at 8 o'clock. There will also be services conducted by the Ocean Lodge, F. & A. M., of which the deceased had been a member since 1860. The burial will be made in Evergreens Cemetery.

Josiah Henry Still was born November 2, 1829 at Blue Point, L.I. His father served with the American troops during the War of 1812, and his grandfather took part in the Revolutionary War with the British Army. When his mother died in 1846, he went to sea and about four years later he purchased a sloop and engaged in the transportation of oysters from Blue Point to Catherine market, New York. Early in 1856, he purchased an oyster house at Seventeenth Street and Third Avenue, Manhattan, where he did business until 1864, when he started in the wholesale oyster trade. In 1890, he retired and transferred the business to his son, George M. Still, who, with two daughters, Mrs. William Smith and Mrs. Robert S. Cameron, survive him.
