Hallie Collins passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday morning, April 10, 2007. He is survived by his daughter Paula Collins Stephens and son-inlaw Tony Stephens; granddaughters, Hallie and Hannah Stephens of Oak Park, Illinois; his brother, Louie Byrns and his nephew, Bart Byrns. Hallie was born and raised in Oklahoma and spent the majority of his life in Oklahoma City. He graduated from Central High School and served in the Navy during World War II as a pilot. From that time on, he loved to fly whenever possible. After the war, he fell in love and married Norma Burkett. After a few years in Dallas, Texas they returned to Oklahoma City where they remained together until Norma's death two years ago. Hallie was an active member of the Northwest Optimist Club for many, many years, and during his daughter's years at Northwest Classen, he was an enthusiastic booster in the Booster Club. For many years, children and families enjoyed the annual fishing derby at Lake Hefner which was made possible because of his efforts. He also remained a vital member of the Central High School Alumni Association. Throughout his life, he loved his family dearly and unconditionally. He was blessed with many deep and lasting friendships with people from mixed generations and backgrounds. He loved Oklahoma City and took a great deal of pride in witnessing the many changes in the growth and development in his town while reflecting fondly on the city of his youth. Hallie was truly an optimist, living with generosity to strangers and friends alike while displaying humor and charm in everything he did. He was one of a kind and a great man who will be missed so much by all who knew him. A memorial service to pay respects and to honor him will be held Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
