Professional Football Player. A native of Rockford, Illinois, Enright attended the Central High School in Rockford, and then the Famed University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where he played football under the legendary coach Knute Rockne. As a halfback, and fullback, Enright went onto play professionally for the National Football League's Green Bay Packers from 1926 to 1927. After his pro football career, Enright settled in Columbia, South Carolina, where he became head football coach and athletic director at the University of South Carolina, a post he held from 1939 until his retirement in 1956. At the time of his retirement, Enright was Dean of the Coaches in the Atlantic Coast Conference. He died in 1960, following a series of stomach ulcers and heart ailments. The Rex Enright Athletic was established in his honour in 1956.
