John Samuel "Sammy" Prince, of Bruington, VA, went home to the Lord on April 14, 2018. He was born on July 4, 1937 in Kino, in Essex County, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Loula Greenstreet Prince; brother, William Prince; and sisters, Gertrude Longest and Ruth Overstreet.
He is survived by sisters, Ellen Reed and Mary Glass (Ted); special nephew, Wayne Greenwood (Linda); and many other nieces and nephews.
Sammy was a friend to all and loved his community and his church. He was a member of the Upper King and Queen Ruritan Club and received a Perfect Attendance award for 31 years. He dedicated his time and resources to restoring "Mrs. Prince's House," one of the oldest homes in King and Queen County, and his childhood home. As a member of the King and Queen Historical Society, he actively volunteered his services for many projects, such as relocating historical structures in the Tavern Museum area. He also served many terms as deacon at Bruington Baptist Church and was Secretary of his Sunday school class, as well as long-time custodian. Sammy was proud of his tractor and his new tractor shed and loved to collect and tinker with tools. He enjoyed many trips to Maryland and Pennsylvania to attend Amish auctions with special friend Brownie Bevan, and was always available to help a family member or neighbor on the hay wagon when there was hay to be baled.
Services will be conducted at Bruington Baptist Church, Bruington, VA, on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at 3 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. B.W. White Funeral Home, Aylett, VA, is assisting the family.
