RATLIFF, MR. JAMES KIMBLE VARDAMAN, age 73, of Mountain Brook, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003.

He was born on October 21, 1929 in Birmingham to Mr. & Mrs. William Thomas Ratliff. A graduate of Ramsay High School, Mr. Ratliff attended Virginia Military Institute, earned his BA degree from the University of Alabama, and earned his LLB degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. He was a first lieutenant in the United States Army during the Korean conflict where he served in the infantry. He enjoyed an almost 50 year career as a principal of The Collateral Mortgage Companies.

Mr. Ratliff was a member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church for 42 years where he served as Life Deacon, was the Director of Sunday School for several years, as well as teaching in the Sunday School and coaching one of the boy's basketball teams. He was a longtime member of the Downtown Rotary Club of Birmingham, the Monday Morning Quarterback Club, the Sons of the American Revolution, and the Country Club of Birmingham.

Mr. Ratliff is survived by his wife, Joyce; three sons; one brother; two sisters, and one sister who preceded him in death, Mino Jones (Fred); 12 grandchildren.

The burial will be private. The Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 24th, in the sanctuary of Mountain Brook Baptist Church, with visitation for family and friends immediately following the service in Hudson Hall at Mountain Brook Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to either the James K. V. Ratliff Scholarship Fund at the Beason School of Divinity of Samford University or to Mountain Brook Baptist Church.

Funeral services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel, 879-3401, in Homewood.
