The Rev. John Francis Abbick, 62, passed away on September 29th at Menorah Medical Center. He was an English professor at Rockhurst College. Father Abbick joined the Society of Jesus in 1931 and received a Master's Degree in English in 1939 from St. Louis University. In 1967 Father Abbick received a PhD in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was an English professor at Marquette University in Milwaukee for 20 years before joining the English department at Rockhurst College in 1969. Father Abbick was a member of the Modern Language Association and a member of the Conference on Christianity and Letters and the Gerard Manley Hopkins International Association.

He was survived by a brother, Charles Abbick of 16 South Tremont in Kansas City, Kansas, and four sisters, Mrs. Josephine Troupe of 200 South Mill in Kansas City, Kansas; Sister Philomena Abbick and Sister Rose Mary Abbick, both of Danville, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Veronica Deck of Hartford, Connecticut.

Visitation and a scripture service were held on Monday, September 30th, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Funeral services were held on Tuesday evening at St. Francis Xavier Church. Burial was held on Wednesday in St. Mary's Cemetery.
