William Henry "Billy" Rose, 71, of the 900 block of NC 461, died April 9, 2007, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital. Mr. Rose was born in Bertie County, a son of the late Gilbert Glenn and Estelle Pratt Rose. Billy was a member and former deacon of Union Baptist Church and was organizer and former chief of the Union Fire Department. He was retired as a food dietitian from the North Carolina Department of Corrections after 27 years of service and was also retired with 20 years of service with the North Carolina National Guard. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mona Gray Martin Rose; two daughters, Bonnie Rose Blowe of Winton and Kathy Rose Dunlow of Ahoskie; two sisters, Ruth Rose Felton of Ahoskie and Elizabeth Rose Huddleston of Petersburg, Va.; grandchildren, Charlotte Stanley, Christy Blowe, Tiffany Dunlow, Jake Dunlow and Bille Jo Dunlow. Besides his parents, Mr. Rose was predeceased by a daughter, Billie Jo Rose; and three brothers, Gilbert Rose Jr., Tommy Rose and Jimmy Rose. A celebration service of Mr. Rose's life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Union Baptist Church with Pastor Curtis Pixler and the Rev. Johnny Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Ahoskie Cemetery with National Guard Honors. The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. today and other times at the home. Memorial donations may be made to the Bille Jo Rose Scholarship Fund, c/o Union Baptist Church, 431 Bonne Farm Road, Ahoskie, NC 27910.
