Verna Viola Sachen, daughter of Henry and Verna (Creitz) Sachen, was born March 19, 1922, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She attended school through the 8th grade at Longfellow. She was united in marriage to Launey Miller on December 12, 1943 in Sioux Falls. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Sioux Falls for 72 years. She worked as a clerk at Montgomery-Wards for nearly 15 years before her retirement in 1981.

Verna has been a lifelong resident of Sioux Falls. She was affectionately known as the "Taco John's Lady." When her husband Launey passed away in 1999, she came out of her 18 year retirement at the age of 78. A coworker from the past recommended her to Taco John's management to be the hostess at 22nd and Minnesota. She worked there for 17 years and loved her job. Her friend Lenora said "it was Verna's Ministry." She touched many lives and made countless friends, and told each one of them she loved them, something our world needs more of today. She was honored by the Taco John’s staff on her 90th birthday and retirement at the age of 94, and was honored by the Mayor’s Office by getting a day named after her. She loved her family and all the neighborhood friends she met over the years. She will be remembered as being a selfless woman who was always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Lonnie (Deborah) Miller of Rochester, MN and Larry (Cindy) Miller of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Kim) Whetstone of Winona, MN, Heather Miller of Rochester, MN, Amie (David) Raymond of Sioux Falls, and Matthew Miller of Sioux Falls; 2 great grandchildren, Drew and Esther; one great-great grandchild, Kaesen; brother, George (Pat) Sachen of Sioux Falls; and sister, Lillian Berreth of Sioux Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Launey; brothers, Harry, Charlie, and Henry Sachen; and sisters, Betty Coulter, Ann Stratmeyer, Mary Erickson, and Sally Erickson.
