MOORE
Florence Olive (Robertson) Anderson was born September 15, 1919 in Gracemont, OK to Olive Elva (Smith) and Walker C. Robertson. She was born in the offices of the telephone company owned by her parents. Her parents moved to Hydro, OK to operate the telephone company there and Florence spent the days of The Dust Bowl and The Great Depression helping to run the switchboard. Florence met Marvin F. Anderson while attending college at OU; at the time, Marvin was a teacher in Moore. Once Florence graduated, she and Marvin married and lived in Moore, OK until Marvin's death in 2007. Florence then moved to a retirement community in Yukon until her death, April 9, 2018. When Marvin became suddenly blind in 1947, Florence began teaching fourth grade in the Moore Public Schools, and continued teaching even after Marvin regained his eyesight. When Florence retired from teaching and Martin retired as the last Postmaster of Moore, Florence and Marvin owned and operated the Hydro Telephone Company with Florence's brother and his wife. Florence and Marvin were very active in the Moore community. Moore was a small town during most of their years there and they volunteered at every event. Florence was a Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, made tubs of potato salad for fundraisers at the Community Center, and had many close friends. After retirement, she and Marvin spent most winters in Rockport, Texas in their trailer. Everyone who knew Florence would say that she was a wonderful woman who cared deeply about others. Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; brother, Johnny Walker Robertson; and sister, Eula Mae Robertson. She leaves, to cherish her memory, daughter, Nancy (Anderson) Jones; granddaughter, Patience (Jones) McCollum; great grandson, William "Wes" Small, V; and all of the fourth grade students she taught. Each year, Florence would make Nancy buy a new winter coat so that she could donate the old coat to one of her students who did not have one. In memory of Florence, please donate to a charity that makes certain that all children have a warm coat during the windy, cold Oklahoma winters, or to a charity of your choice.
