Brasgalla was a sergeant in the US Army from 1948 to 1959, and the local commander of the US troops in Passau, Bavaria, Germany. He gained great respect from the population as a helper in emergencies, such as the flood of 1954 and bottlenecks in supply. After retiring from active military service, he remained in Passau, where he died February 24, 1989. In 2002, a street was named after him in Passau, Germany, called the Arthur-Brasgalla-Steig.
