Robert Charles “Bob” Oates, a resident of Webb, Alabama, died Wednesday afternoon, April 4, 2018, in a Dothan hospital. He was 79.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 9, 2018, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Tim McCraney officiating and eulogies to be given by friends. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P. M. Monday at the mortuary.

A Graveside Committal of Ashes will take place at Sutton Cemetery on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.

Mr. Oates was born in Fillmore County, Nebraska, son of the late Orville Oates and Hazel Elofson Oates. He lived in Albion, Nebraska before moving to Webb in 1982. Mr. Oates served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1956 until 1959. He was of the Catholic Faith. Mr. Oates retired from Whiterock Construction Company as a Construction Superintendent and was employed in commercial and residential construction most of his lifetime.

He and his wife formerly owned and operated Webb Nursery.

Mr. Oates was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Mary Oates Johnson, and a brother, Gary Oates.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Betty Johns Harbin-Oates, Webb, AL; two daughters, Lori Krohn (Mike), Albion, Nebraska; and Anita Stuhr-Evans (Rick), Elkhorn, Nebraska; a son, Eric Oates (Renee’), Hazel, Kentucky and a step-son, Henry Harbin, III (Ann), Colquitt, GA; two sisters, Mary Ann Riley, Lincoln, Nebraska; and Ora Adler (Dr. Jerry), Hastings, Nebraska; a brother, Tom Oates (Dot), Headland; eight grandchildren, one step-grandson; fourteen great-grandchildren.
