Kyle is preceded in death by his two half- sisters; Sue Colvard and Annie Gray; as well his oldest son; James Kyle Vannoy.
His is survived by one brother; Leet Vannoy of Wytheville, VA. His wife of 44 years; Shirley Hartzog Vannoy. Five daughters; Teresa V. Richardson and her husband Bill of Lansing; Phyllis Gregory of Wilkesboro; Susan Vannoy of West Jefferson; Tammy Burgess of West Jefferson; Robin Scott and her husband Steve of Idlewild. One son; Michael Vannoy of West Jefferson. Eighteen grandchildren; Shana Gaddy; Joe Richardson; Dustin Gregory; Amie Gorry; Brandi Hurley; Blake Lewis; Andrew Vannoy; Nicholas Vannoy; Anna Vannoy; Noah Vannoy; Davidson Vannoy; Aaron Scott; Rachel Scott; Logan Scott; Nathan Scott; Joey Scott; Jed Hodges; and Sara Wilson, and eight great-grandchildren.
Kyle spent over 65 years in the family owned and operated business of Dr. Pepper Bottling of West Jefferson. At the age of 89, Kyle continued to actively work in the bottling plant daily until his recent illness.
In his early years, when outside of work he spent his spare time plotting a way to escape into the wilderness to roam the woods in search of Ginseng. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Kyle was a great family provider; as well as an actively involved community volunteer. He was an early member of Ashe County Rescue Squad where he volunteered many hours participating in search and rescues. He served as the Captain of the squad for several years during his tenure with the organization. He also, served 25 years with the West Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department and protecting the homes and lives of his friends and neighbors throughout the county.
Kyle was a longtime, dedicated member of Pine Swamp Baptist Church, where he spent many years as the Sunday School Teacher.
The family will receive family and friends at Boone Family Funeral Home on Tuesday, April, 10, 2018 from 6 until 8pm.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11AM at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Viers and Rev. Tom Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery.
