In 1910, she moved with her family to Danville, Va. where she lived until moving with her husband to Roanoke, Va. in 1930. For the last six years she has been a resident of Brandon Oaks Retirement Community. She was a long time member of Green Memorial United Methodist Church where in her early days she was a very active member. Her family, church and flower gardens occupied most of her time during her adult life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert E. Motley, Sr. and grandson, Douglas E. Motley.
Surviving are her two sons and their spouses, Albert E. Motley, Jr. and wife, Dorothy of Niceville, Fla. and Kenneth L. Motley and wife, Nancy of Roanoke, Va. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Kathryn Gullo of Tampa, Fla., Albert E. Motley, III of Hampton, Va., Michael Motley of Conyers, Ga., Sharon Kleinman of Potomac, Md., Shelley Case of Suffolk, Va. and Benjamin S. Motley of Roanoke, Va.; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Sherwood Burial Park. The Rev. Michael L. Lyle and the Rev. Walter M. Lockett, Jr. will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2002 at Oakey's Downtown Roanoke Chapel.
