The Rev. Russell T. Allen, 50, pastor of the Nonsectarian Fellowship church, Phillipsburg, a well-known Lehigh Valley television and radio personality, was fatally injured yesterday in a violent head-on crash on the Lehigh Valley Thruway a half-mile west of Route 191.

Born in Phillipsburg, he was a son of Elsie (Brisch) Allen of Phillipsburg and the late Edward Allen. A 1952 graduate of Muhlenberg College, which he attended on a football scholarship, Allen was a philosopher and a social activist. He dreamed of a good society and sought to make it that through his religious teachings. Although he had an early interest in coaching football, a "born-again" experience during his junior year at Muhlenberg changed the direction of his life. "I came to the realization that nothing in life really counted except for doing the Lord's work", he said.
Survivng besides Allen's mother are his widow, the former Dorith Stoneback; two sons, David T. of Easton and the Rev. Daniel P., pastor of Faith Bible fellowship Church, Cape May, N.J.; two daughters, Mrs. Cheryl Swift,of Peerskill, N.Y., and Cherene Allen of Cape May Courthouse; two brothers, Edward and Thomas, both of Phillipsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Herb of Bethlehem and Mrs. Myrna Gardner of Mechanicsburg, and a grandson.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fellowship Church, Morris Park. Rupell Funeral Home, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg is in charge of arrangements.
